books connect us

dear friends, how are we doing? can we all just take a collective deep breath together? *inhale* *hold* *exhale*. alright, that's a little better.

it's been a little while since i've last written to you, and within the span of 3 (ish) months, our whole world has flipped on its axis. that may be a little dramatic, but i don't think i'm wrong in saying that the situation happening in the world is unlike what many of us has seen before. this global pandemic has quite literally changed the way we interact with each other and the rest of the world. i'm writing this as california--and most of the world--is on a shelter-in-place order. social distancing is what it's being called, but quite frankly, it's a quarantine, a lockdown of sorts, and i am not a fan.

it may not be a surprise to anyone that i am an introvert (and a large one at that!) and would consider myself a homebody at heart. some of you may be thinking that this quarantine should be a piece of cake for someone like me, but in all honesty, it sucks. not being able to go do the things that i usually do--albeit, alone--is no fun. i miss being able to grab a cup of coffee with a friend, or run to the grocery store to pick up something i needed, or spend too much time inside target because i can. i miss it all. let me be the first one to say that i cannot wait for this to be over.

maybe the one upside of all of this, for me at least, is the fact that i have a little more time for personal reading. i've put too many books on my "check out on libby" notes page, and have had a field day with borrowing titles with kindle unlimited. one thing i've been seeing on social media is the #booksconnectus hashtag. i love it. with this quarantine, i have seen so many people connecting through books or their love of reading, which is honestly really powerful. celebrities have started reading books for children online, local bookstores have been doing daily story time on their sites, and the bookstagram community on instagram is poppin', if i do say so myself. it really speaks to the power for books to truly connect us.

so as we go into another week of social distancing--i prefer physical distancing, but to each their own--don't forget to keep in contact with those close to you. although we can't physically be with each other at the moment, there are plenty of ways to stay connected. texts, phone calls, video chats...all are great options. social media can be a lot to handle, but it's also a great way to keep in touch. i have been more active online in the past two weeks than ever before, chatting with old friends and making sure we're all staying sane.

so, i'd love to know: how are you all coping with staying/working from home? what are your favorite ways to de-stress and practice self-care? (which is very important!). what have you been reading lately? let me know in the comments!

sending you all love and light,
L
