the universe of us | lang leav

goodreads book breakdown:

Lang Leav presents a completely new collection of poetry with a celestial theme in The Universe of Us.
Planets, stars, and constellations feature prominently in this beautiful, original poetry collection from Lang Leav.  Inspired by the wonders of the universe, the best-selling poetess writes about love and loss, hope and hurt, being lost and found.  Lang's poetry encompasses the breadth of emotions we all experience and evokes universal feelings with her skillfully crafted words.

i have definitely been on a poetry kick lately. from reading rupi kaur's beautifully written MILK AND HONEY at the end of last year and following some wonderful poets on instagram, (seriously, could they hit you in the feels any harder?), when i saw THE UNIVERSE OF US i knew i had to pick it up.

time and time again i am always so awestruck about how writers can string together words that hit me so close to home. reading THE UNIVERSE OF US took me--no joke--less than a hour to finish. i was sitting at starbucks with my morning cup of coffee and i couldn't put it down. i laughed, i almost started to cry, and my heart almost couldn't handle it at some parts. it's not too long and the pieces are pretty short, but it's jammed packed with raw emotion.

not that i've ever been in a serious relationship before, but i can only hope to someday feel the emotions of love, hope, and happiness that was encompassed in this book. (and the heartache as well, because let's be real, that's inevitable). you need to pick this up if 1. you're looking for some good poetry, 2. if you want to feel all the feels, or 3. you want a glimpse into the relationship world. it's all here, people. trust me.
"Standing in a bookstore, near a street where you used to live, I found myself wishing you would walk through the door and we could meet for the first time--all over again."
