molly on the range | molly yeh
goodreads book breakdown:
In 2013, food blogger and classical musician Molly Yeh left Brooklyn to live on a farm on the North Dakota-Minnesota border, where her fiancé was a fifth-generation Norwegian-American sugar beet farmer. Like her award-winning blog My Name is Yeh, Molly on the Range chronicles her life through photos, more than 100 new recipes, and hilarious stories from life in the city and on the farm.
Molly’s story begins in the suburbs of Chicago in the 90s, when things like Lunchables and Dunkaroos were the objects of her affection; continues into her New York years, when Sunday mornings meant hangovers and bagels; and ends in her beloved new home, where she’s currently trying to master the art of the hotdish. Celebrating Molly's Jewish/Chinese background with recipes for Asian Scotch Eggs and Scallion Pancake Challah Bread and her new hometown Scandinavian recipes for Cardamom Vanilla Cake and Marzipan Mandel Bread, Molly on the Range will delight everyone, from longtime readers to those discovering her glorious writing and recipes for the first time.
yes, i read a cookbook this weekend, and YES, i loved it. what i loved about this cookbook in particular is that in addition to recipes, molly included stories of her influences growing up, becoming a musician, and moving a farm in the midwest with her fiance. i had first seen molly on snapchat, of all places, sharing recipes on the tastemade story. (i can't be the only one that watches those, right?) i then found her blog, mynameisyeh.com, and became obsessed with her, in a totally non-creepy way, of course. her writing has a fun and lightheartedness to it and i loved reading the story of how she became a food blogger. once i found out that she was coming out with a cookbook i knew i had to get it!
there are so many fun recipes in the book that i'm dying to try, like the tahini blondie ice cream sandwiches and homemade hummus. if you know me personally then you know i'm venturing into adulthood--or trying, at least--and some days it's all good and then other days i have no idea what in the world is going on. who knows? maybe i'll discover my inner cook/baker one day and become a world-famous food critic, and i'll have molly to thank for it. (hey, a girl can dream, right?)
